Serving the DD Community
Serving the DD Community
Feel better in the personalized space of our homes. We specialize in care and daily living assistance to an array of individuals with Developmental Disabilities. Our care givers will provide an individualized service that families can trust.
We understand that not one care plan fits all. Daily services can include anything from meal preparation, hygiene, cleaning, and supervision. We take the time to get to know our residents and develop an individualized care plan that fits their specific needs.
We not only strive to help our residents with everyday tasks but want to develop recreational opportunities with them to provide social interactions and life enrichment. We maintain full time staff focused on these activities and we also encourage our residents to engage and explore in the wider community.
My son has been blessed to live in one of the McElvain group homes for several years. The passion of its founder, Kathy McElvain has blazed a trail that any other in that profession would find difficult to follow. She hasn't just built a business through her passion, she has literally built a home for multiple individuals in need that is exemplary of care and compassion that is hard to find elsewhere. What is amazing is her ability to bring people around her that have a similar vision for being there and helping those in their care. If the only group home you were familiar with was McElvain's, then anytime you heard the term 'group home' you would immediately bring to mind feelings of care, compassion and community. Thankfully, for many in our area, those who otherwise may find themselves in a difficult situation, know that in McElvain's they truly have found their home.
Our journey with McElvain Group Homes began when my son, Tim, was 27 years old. He is now 58. The state run hospitals were closing. I received a call that a representative from McElvain Group Homes would like to speak with Tim about the possibility of him residing in one of their homes in Mansfield. The interview went well and Tim began a wonderful new chapter in his life.
Tim had been heavily medicated at the mental hospital but over a period of time, his meds were cut way down. Tim began to take interest in this world with the help of the staff at McElvain Homes and their commitment to their residents.
Tim has worked in the community, holding jobs at the wood shop, Red Lobster and Goodwill. He is a good worker and now enjoys having a purpose in his life.
Socially, McElvain Homes holds many activities, dances, concerts, fairs and movies. There are yearly vacations which have allowed Tim to visit Myrtle Beach SC, Branson MO., Lancaster PA, and Gatlinburg TN.
The staff are there to assist their residents with much patience and sense of humor! Parents and Guardians are kept well informed of any problems or concerns the residents may have.
I cannot say enough for how thankful I am to McElvain Homes for opening their first home and for taking Tim into their care.
Our daughter Katie became a member of McElvain homes in 1994. This event in her life, at age 17, is something that we now cherish 27 years late.
This has given Kate the chance to be with people that have similar disabilities to make a connection.
The staff has been so wonderful that work with her which gives us peace in knowing that she will be well taken care of when we depart this world.
Thank you Kathy for the ministry God has created for you.
The love you have shown for all those we love cannot be fully expressed in world.
Thank you!
